Parakkadavu has long been recognised as a centre of Deen and Deeni knowledge. For generations, the region has nurtured eminent scholars whose depth of learning and spiritual stature matched the greatest contemporaries of Kerala. As a community, Parakkadavu stood as the intellectual and spiritual capital of the surrounding areas, with the historic Valiya Juma Masjid at its heart.
The sacred Parakkadavu Maqam is the resting place of great ulama and sufis, bearing witness to a rich legacy of scholarship and piety. Among the most prominent figures was Parakkadavu Valiya Kazi (Puthiya Veetil Abdulla Musliyar), a renowned scholar across Malabar, who served as the Kazi and Mudarris of Parakkadavu. The masjid also benefited from the guidance of other illustrious scholars such as Kanarandy Ammad Musliyar, Kuvvathidayil Sheikh Musliyar, and many more who dedicated their lives to teaching and nurturing Deeni knowledge.
Adding to this legacy, the world-renowned scholar E.K. Aboobacker Musliyar, popularly known as Shamsul Ulama—a prominent leader and General Secretary of Samastha Kerala Jam’iyyathul Ulama—also served as a Mudarris at Parakkadavu Masjid. His contributions elevated Parakkadavu’s standing in the scholarly world of Kerala and beyond.
Inspired by this profound heritage, Shamsul Ulama Islamic Centre (SUIC) was established to live the Deen with commitment and to continue this noble legacy of learning and service. Founded in 2015, SUIC currently runs three institutes, all operating under the guidance of a dedicated local committee.
Geographically, Parakkadavu is located near Nadapuram, at the border of Kozhikode (Calicut) district, close to the Kannur region, and serves as the main town of Chekkiad Panchayath. Rooted in history and committed to the future, Parakkadavu continues to shine as a beacon of Islamic knowledge, scholarship, and community leadership.
